The Cultural Landscape of Old Tea Forests of the Jingmai Mountain in Pu'er gained World Heritage Site status on the 45th Session of the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Sunday (September 17), bringing the total number of Chineseentriesto 57. It is also the first World Heritage Site with the theme of tea.

The newly-inscribed heritage site contains five old tea forests, nine villages mainly inhabited by Blang and Dai ethnic groups, and three protective and partition forests. It is a typical representative of the best-preserved artificially cultivated old tea forests with the richest connotation, which still maintains vigorous vitality. It is also the crystallization of the wisdom of the Chinese agricultural civilization, and is a model for the positive interaction between man and nature as well as for sustainable development.
