Quzhou Confucius Temple is located in Xinqiao street, Fushan subdistrict, Quzhou City. It is one of the only two Kong family temples left in China, and is known as Nanzong (the Southern Temple). The whole ancient architectural complex is solemn and dignified, full of strong Confucian cultural atmosphere. According to historical records, at the end of the Northern Song Dynasty, soldiers of the Jin Dynasty invaded southward. Zhao Gou, Emperor Gaozong of the Song Dynasty, rushed to the South and established his capital in Lin’an. Kong Duanyou, the 48th generation grandson of Confucius, left Qufu, carrying the wooden statues of Confucius and his wife carved from pistacia chinensis (a unique tree species in Qufu), and moved southward to Quzhou. After that, he built the Kong family temple, which is an ancestral temple.
