The Confucian Temple inDujiangyan was the largest county-level Confucian Temple in western Sichuanprovince. It is located at the foot of Panlong Mountain, next to Wenbi Mountain on the left and Yulei Mountain on the right, covering an area of 47 mu(over 31,000 square meters).
The Confucius Temple inDujiangyan has its own unique characteristics among the Confucian temples in the country. The architectural regulations of the Confucian Temple strictly adhere to Chinese Confucianism andtheConfucian aesthetic values. In the overall layout, there is theserious and orderly construction of the central axiswhich runs through,with the halls symmetrically arranged on the left and rightin a progressive hierarchy. The Dacheng Hall, which enshrines the plaque of Confucius, is located at the top of the central axis. This layout reflects the doctrine of the Mean in Confucianism, which is impartialand moderate. The ancient pine and cypress trees exude a philosophical atmosphere of elegance and immortality. The combination of the two is exactly the connotation of beautiful connotationof the ConfuciusTemple.
In the past, Confucian templeshad the function of both sacrifice and education. Since its opening, the Confucian Temple in Dujiangyanhas been trying to integratethe functions of temple and school. Nowit has seen the resume of ancient ritual performances and this practice has been borrowed by others. In addition, basedon the Confucian teachings of the "Six Arts of the Gentlemen",an exhibition hall of the "Rites, Music, Archery, Literatureand Mathematics" have been buit to providecourses of the six arts, aiming to develop a new model of traditional Chinese education.
